On the US PGA Tour, local favourite D.A. Points held his nerve to secure a victory at the Houston Open on Sunday.
Despite a late charge by his closest rival, Sweden's Henrik Stenson, that saw Points' lead narrowed to a single stroke as the tournament came to an end, the tenacious American held his nerve to win. After stormy weather delayed the final holes of the tournament by a few hours, Point returned to the course seemingly unfazed and knocked in four pars to lift the trophy.
This is Points' second PGA Tour victory, and marks a turning point in his career this season. The American has been struggling to finish competitively this season, but Sunday's victory has placed him back in the winner's circle as he secures an invitation to this year's US Masters.
The European Tour travelled to Morocco for the Easter weekend, with Germany's Marcel Siem winning the Hassan II Trophy by a comfortable margin of three strokes.
After leading the tournament overnight, Siem soon saw his lead cut down by Miko Ilonen of Finland, who opened the final round with a series of birdies that thrilled the crowd. Not to be outdone however, Siem returned from his bogey at the first hole with an outstanding performance that saw him enter the lead once again. Ilonen's game lost its earlier sparkle on the back nine, where a series of bogeys took him out of contention. Seeing his opportunity to win, Siem continued his fine form to win with an easy three-shot lead over Ilonen.
Britain's David Horsey was also a strong contender for the title on Sunday, matching Siem's score of 69 in the final round. However, the Briton had to settle for joint second place alongside Ilonen as the German lifted the trophy for the third time on the European Tour.
